So as it turns out, not even the internet could devise a legitimate scheme to get million dollar homes for free. As you may recall from our feature last week, an ambitious go-getter named Susan Weidman was making a nifty little business out of squatting in bank-owned foreclosures, claiming ownership via adverse possession and then renting them out to tenants. As it turns out, the law firm, property management company and other "legitimate" businesses involved in her ploy were all fake, and her paying tenants were in on the scam as well. Everyone got arrested, and the poor, defenseless banks will get their houses back. We wish you well in the criminal justice system, Susan. [AJC]
