Where We Comment on the Black Friday Insanity

Okay, we get it. The economy is in the toilet. And large retailers desperately need holiday shopping to bail them out of yet another year of the un-patriotic American consumer choosing to save money or pay down debt rather than spending all of their income (if they're lucky enough to have it) on material possessions. But the Black Friday drumbeat has gotten positively deafening this year. The final nail in the coffin? The erstwhile traffic reporter Mark Arum talking to an Atlanta Journal Constitution writer about the challenges of reporting mall parking lot traffic on Black Friday. Retailers and the media seem to have finally jumped the shark. We are officially advocating doing anything else other than shopping on Friday. Except, of course, for the fine goods and services offered by our sponsors. [AJC]
