With Work Scant at Home, Atlanta Architects Find Work Abroad

As we've previously noted, Atlanta architecture firms have long had an international presence, most notably John Portman & Associates long history of work in Asia. Today the AJC details just how important the international market has become to U.S. (and specifically Atlanta) architects as America's real estate hangover lingers on. One of the more astounding figures cited: China currently accounts for some 80% of Portman & Associates portfolio. While the lack of new construction in the U.S. is generally depressing and putting the hurt on Georgia's real estate-driven economy with particular fury, that Atlanta firms are succeeding in international markets is a silver lining, however slender.
