A Gem in Northcrest, Atlanta's Pocket of Mid-Century Cool

The enclave of well-preserved mid-century modern homes in Doraville called Northcrest is an oasis of retro style that has hovered a bit below the radar for years now, in spite of a Creative Loafing cover story nearly 7 years ago and all manner of location photo shoots (look at pages 47-57) over the years. Though we certainly don't proclaim to be all-knowing, it took a recent tip from a good friend to alert us to the existence of it. Here now we have a listing in Northcrest, and though it can't be considered a completely faithful mid-century rehab, the deviations seem worth it (Bosch kitchen, oak floors, etc.- yes, please). This 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath piece of 50's/60's California (replete with carport) was built in 1961 and sits on a lovely, shaded lot. And you're just a hop, skip and jump from the United Nations of tasty food located on Buford Highway. No telling what this spot would go for if it was in Palm Springs or the Hollywood Hills, but negotiations start for you at $269,000.
