ATL-Based Luxe Hotel Group Gets Capitalized

The newly re-branded and Atlanta-based Capella Hotels Group just got a new partner and with it some capital to grow. Capella is run by Horst Schulze (the former President of Ritz Carlton Hotels) and though small, it is one of the world's pre-eminent luxury hotel / resort management companies. Schulze was a key member of the Atlanta team that helped developer W.B. Johnson and Johnson Properties parlay his Waffle House riches into acquiring the Ritz Carlton brand in 1983 and then building it up before selling it to Marriott for $290 million in 1998. Capella doesn't currently have any hotels in their hometown, but perhaps the new slug of cash will allow them to go shopping. [Hotel News Now]
