We're not sure how we missed this one earlier, but the fall of 2011 has been rife with talk of IKEA's plans to develop an entire neighborhood in East London adjacent to the city's new Olympic Park. Their plan calls for 1,200 houses, retail, restaurants and a 350-room hotel. The theme of the neighborhood will apparently be water, as the Swedish maker of stylish furnishings of sometimes egregious quality is aiming to create a quasi-Venice around canals in 26-acre site in the Stratford area. The jokes are just too obvious here (unlike IKEA assembly instructions- ha!)...that is all. [The Pop-Up City]
