The well-heeled and boundary-amorphous community of Brookhaven is in the midst of a widely-publicized flirtation with becoming its own city, and one man is credited with initiating it. Not only would this would represent a huge loss for Dekalb County's tax base, but it would continue the trend of affluent Atlanta neighborhoods setting themselves apart from their less fortunate neighbors. Wherever you stand on the issue, this profile of state legislator Mike Jacobs- who introduced the legislation that would allow Brookhaven residents to vote on their potential sovereignty- is pretty interesting.
