Sad Trends, Atlanta Neighborhoods

The Journal-Constitution had a feature putting the drug problems that have long plagued northwest Atlanta neighborhoods into a national context. The Atlanta neighborhood known as The Bluff, made semi-famous/infamous by drugs and crime and featured in rap lyrics was singled out. U.S. Department of Justice research of the Atlanta drug market shows that heroin is attracting an increasingly suburban, caucasian, middle-class, teenage user. In searching for cheaper alternatives to the prescription painkillers they've come to enjoy, kids are coming to the big city to get heroin, thereby exposing themselves to multiple risks (in addition to the heroin).
