Would $1.25 million in streetscape improvements and pedestrian upgrades make Boulevard feel more inviting to you? Would you freely choose that route for walking or biking? At night? The Atlanta Regional Commission hopes so.
Atlanta Magazine reports the ARC has recommended $1 million in infrastructure improvements along Boulevard from Ponce de Leon Avenue to Memorial Drive as a means to fill a funding void left by the rejection of T-SPLOST. Conceptually, the city would chip in an additional $250,000, marking the most significant improvements to Boulevard in decade. Plans include raised medians, mid-block crosswalks and other pedestrian safety measures.
Celebrated champion of Boulevard, city councilmember Kwanza Hall, worked with the city's planning department to submit the request, the magazine reports. Hurdles remain before the ARC could add the project to its finalized Transportation Improvement Program, but the ARC nod was apparently enough to make Hall exclaim, "Wow!"
