Poncey-Highland Institution Foresees Literary Future

The Poncey-Highland institution that is the Highland Ballroom — a grande dame of an Atlanta events space since its 1927 opening — has long been known for rollicking rock shows and more docile weddings. But the ballroom's crystal ball foretells of a future with more ? literature?

The Highland Ballroom's new events director tells Creative Loafing in an in-depth interview that successes with author readings and the LostintheLetters series has spurred the debut of Write Club Atlanta at the ballroom this week. The popular Write Club series, which pits writers in verbal sparring matches for charity, seems well-suited for the sturdy, subterranean space.
