Prez Obama Shows Savannah Port Some Love

Though it's being decried in come circles as "irresponsible" and "a recipe for a debt crisis and the decline of America," Georgia's politicians (including Senator Isakson) are pleased that President Obama's budget has included funds to deepen and expand the Savannah port. Though the $2.8 million allocated is nowhere near enough to actually do it, it does indicate that the project will eventually get done. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has led a group of state politicians and business leaders in advocating for expansion of the port to prepare for the increased traffic in mega-sized cargo ships that will be able to come with the widened Panama Canal. Now we just need to get South Carolina in line. [AJC]
