Ground Hath Been Broken for Your Atlanta Streetcar

The days of tourists and Atlanta residents alike having to walk from Centennial Olympic Park and other downtown locales to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical site are over. Just kidding! Everyone knows that no one actually makes that walk. Regardless, soon the Atlanta Streetcar will be whisking people along the 2+ mile corridor between the Park and the Sweet Auburn district. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood came down for a ceremony yesterday to mark the groundbreaking of the streetcar line and celebrate the $47.6 million grant from the feds that will help build the project (combined with some $15 million from the City of Atlanta and $6mm from the Downtown Improvement District). Cheers to a small but symbolically-important piece of the Atlanta public transit puzzle being put into place.
