1895 Midtown Classic Asking Six Times Its Last Sales Price

Saint Charles Avenue on its Midtown side is a cozy little street, a parade of some of the neighborhood’s best Victorians that ends on a rise above the Midtown Place parking lot. One of these beauties is on the market for the first time since 1985, at which time it sold for the now paltry price of $109,000. Current asking price - $659,900. While you marinate on that dramatic multiplication, consider the finer points of this 1895 dame. The entry makes a homey statement with its original fireplace, spindly woodwork, and pretty staircase; the piano doesn’t hurt, either. No doubt the generous, airy room proportions were more than appreciated in pre-A/C days. We have a sneaking suspicion that the kitchen cabinets and backsplash date from the last sale of the house; thankfully the homeowners have smartly updated with new counters and appliances. A lush backyard is fitted out with a patio possibly constructed of antique hexagonal sidewalk tiles and looks perfect for those summer ‘cues, but it’s probably the front porch that sees the most use. It’s deep enough for plenty of seating and makes the perfect perch for wiling away a lazy Sunday afternoon.
