H.J. Russell & Company's beleagured Historic Westside Village is getting a shot in the arm with news that Walmart is coming to the site after buying it for $4.25 million. The retailing megalith will bring a full-service (i.e. normal Walmart plus pharmacy, groceries, financial services) store to the vacant former Publix in Vine City. H.J. Russell's subsidiary Russell New Urban Development LLC developed WHV with a lot of help from Invest Atlanta back before the pop of the great bubble, and Publix's much-ballyhooed entrance into an urban market was an immediate failure. Based on Walmart's success at Howell Mill, we're guessing they'll do better in the space. [Atlanta Business Chronicle]
