Some confusing things are happening over on Auburn Avenue, as reported by Scott Henry at Creative Loafing. It seems local development company The Integral Group would like to demolish the circa 1930 Atlanta Daily World building. Georgia State University had no idea about the plans, yet a rep from Integral claimed that the site was to become new student housing for the fast-growing school. Integral’s huge project a block east, Renaissance Walk, ignited fierce discussion about the relationship between economic development and historic preservation, so they can expect a fight when it comes to taking down another fragment of the street’s past. We’ll see what happens March 28 when the Urban Design Commission takes up the issue once more. [Creative Loafing]
