Public Funds for New Falcons Stadium Questioned, Again

The announcement of a possible replacement stadium for the Atlanta Falcons has raised plenty of ire from folks who say the public funds proposed for the project could find much better use elsewhere. If the proposed 2013 state budget passes, the Georgia World Congress Center could utilize $15,000,000 in bond money to purchase nearby property for a new stadium. Now state lawmakers are wanting to make their opposition known with a resolution introduced by state representative Mike Dudgeon of Forsyth that would discourage the GWCC from going that route should they score the funds. Over twenty other lawmakers support the measure, but given the desire of Mayor Reed and team owner Arthur Blank for a new Falcons' nest, the outcome is less than certain. [Public Broadcasting Atlanta]
