Mandarin Oriental at The Mansion: The 'Deets

Word hit the streets a couple of weeks ago that one of Atlanta's most prominent recession casualties is getting a new identity in the capable hands of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. BuckheadView has a great piece with all the details, including both the new hotel flag and the anticipated entry of the Del Frisco Restaurant Group into the Atlanta market. Post Properties founder John Williams developed The Mansion project (he had it designed by starchitect Robert A.M.Stern) and faced a pretty serious headwind when it launched in the early days of the pain. In addition to the Rosewood-managed hotel's lackluster performance, the condos atop it have struggled mightily, and the outpost of Craft (it of Tom Colicchio's New York empire) didn't last. Williams lost The Mansion to the bank (iStar) in 2010; an iStar subsidiary that now owns it is behind the shake-up. [BuckheadView]
