Atlanta's Sprawl: An Illustrated History

Many a Monday morning quarterback (ourselves included) has lamented the massive failures in planning perpetrated by Atlanta metro officials past. While this must read piece from ATL Urbanist pours a bit of salt in the wound in showing that past transportation officials knew of the problems brewing even then, it does serve as a powerful tool for making the case for change now. Of course, the cycle has begun again in earnest with the Atlanta Regional Commission ceding some 48% of the anticipated T-SPLOST funds to the "more roads" faction (and who, by the way, still want more). But this is a long game being played. Those fighting for metro Atlanta to shift its focus to mass transit when it comes to transportation infrastructure would do well to print this piece out and keep it in their pockets. [ATL Urbanist]
