Atlanta Still Has Some Global Clout

Though we're not quite New York, London, or Tokyo, Atlanta is still inside the Top 40 of the Global Cities Index. Based on a metric calculated to include the factors of business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political engagement, Atlanta ranks #39 this year, just behind Houston (ugh, that armpit?) but just in front of Taipei. Apparently we're in more of a recovery than housing numbers would indicate, because after peaking in 2008 at #37, by 2010 Atlanta had slipped to #40. Overall Team USA fared pretty well, with 4 cities in the Top 10, including NYC, L.A., Chicago and D.C. Take that Europe. [The Atlantic Cities]
