The Legacy of Howard Finster, Revived

The salvation of Howard Finster's Paradise Gardens has been in progress for a couple of years now. But the idiosyncratic treasure trove of southern folk art now seems officially saved, and there's going to be a celebration heralding the grand opening of the restored Paradise Gardens this weekend called Finster Fest, with Patterson Hood of the Drive By Truckers headlining the entertainment. Creative Loafing's Debbie Michaud has written a definitive account of the decline and later restoration of Howard Finster's physical legacy at the hands of a couple of young preservationists. Fans of art, southern culture or interesting stories would do well to read it. [Creative Loafing]
