Welcome to Atlanta, Lonelytown

As the statisticians in the United States Census Bureau continue with their analyses of the 2010 census data, interesting snapshots of life in these United States emerge, today Atlanta is in the spotlight. In a dizzying ascent (we weren't even in the Top 10 in 2000), Atlanta is now tied for #1 with Washington for people living alone. There are a wide variety of factors attributed to pervasiveness of the ATL's single family households: among them the plethora of apartment and condo options built over the past decade. But one theme seems to ring true: people seem to value the delicious silence they encounter when they return to a home devoid of roommates or significant others. And if they do get lonely, they always have their smart phone. [AJC]
