The end of 2012's Congress for the New Urbanism confab is now a couple of weeks past, but as time passes it allows for reflections on what occurred there and on the state of the movement in general. We came across this particularly thoughtful essay and found it not only a worthy stock-taking in the wake of the CNU event, but also a valuable, context-rich read for those well-acquainted with the concept of new urbanism and beginners alike. The section on the disposability of some of recent history's building was particularly resonant, as were the author's (himself a member of the architecture-planning industrial complex) comments on needs for adaptation within his own field.
