Tough Times & New Leadership at Woodruff

For the first time in its nearly 50 year history, a woman has taken the helm as President & CEO of the Woodruff Arts Center, Atlanta's pre-eminent arts and culture institution...and she's got her work cut out for her. That Virginia Hepner is a former Wachovia banking executive is appropriate, given the formidable financial challenges the Woodruff Arts Center faces as the depression (or whatever this is) drags on. With donations compressed, scant public funds to work with and a lot of overhead, arts institutions like the Symphony find themselves at a difficult juncture and in need of more sugar daddies and mommas to keep the town cultured.
