Thomas Wheatley over at Creative Loafing has an excellent piece out today detailing efforts to build a huge, glittering new park on 16-acres of mostly vacant land in Vine City. The park is the brainchild of architect Rodney Mims Cook and his nonprofit National Monuments Foundation, perhaps best known in Atlanta as the folks responsible for the Millenium Gate in Atlantic Station. The scope and scale of the park evokes some of the grand city parks of Europe, and would honor important Atlanta historical figures, including many civil rights leaders. Though the city would have to kick in nominal funds, it's speculated the park's construction would be at least partially funded by Arthur Blank and the Falcons as part of the deal to get the new stadium built. Head over to CL for the full scoop. [Creative Loafing]
