Even The Atlantic Cities blog is not immune to the socio-marketing-cultural juggernaut that is the Olympics. But the ever-fascinating Richard Florida mines some pretty interesting trivia from the geographical data sets of hometowns and current residences of this year's Olympic team. Atlanta can count itself among the upper echelon as the hometown of 10 Olympians (though California really owns the upper-most echelon, with a combined 60 between L.A. and San Francisco). The number of Olympians that actually reside here is lower, but the Southeast's climate and relative lack of the high-altitude training environments many athletes seek likely play a part.
