Emory Going Big, LEED-Certified With New Dorm

What is arguably Atlanta's finest institution of higher learning (and inarguably its most expensive at nearly $56k per year) continues to be a leader in sustainability. Demolition has begun on the old Trimble Hall (capacity: 72), which will be replaced by a shiny new LEED Silver dorm that will hold in excess of 300 students. Emory's sustainability initiatives have garnered it a number of awards; in addition to outfitting many of its facilities with the latest in sustainable technology, one program pitted its entire campus in competition with each other to see who could conserve the most energy and water. If only all of Atlanta could be a prodiguously-endowed, high-tuition private university. [VaHi-Druid Hills Patch]
