Austin's Oh So Resilient Economy Translates into Downtown Development

New, 1 comment

Construction has started back up in Midtown and Buckhead, but we’re not the only Sunbelt city attempting to build away the Great Recession blues. Thanks to high-tech job growth, the University of Texas, and an its status as center of an immense state government, Austin’s economy has been doing just fine, thank you. A New York Times piece profiles the building boomlet that’s been occurring there in the form of new downtown residences, offices, and hotels. Maybe it’s not as explosive as they think; their 500 apartment units now under construction equal less than the combined total of our two Midtown apartment buildings going up on 12th Street. [NYT]
