So Is the Multi-Modal Passenger Terminal Still a Thing?

New, 4 comments

Even with Governor Deal's proclamation that rail expansion is dead in Georgia the folks behind downtown's planned multimodal station are confident they've got a winner. When you're the brains behind a $1.2 billion project, you better put on a happy face. John Schuyler (principal at design firm FXFOWLE) and Janet Romanic (with Cooper Carry and the deputy project manager) point out the positives: the project wasn't dependent on T-SPLOST funding (well, it almost was); they've made fast, easy progress with the stakeholders; and the site has a built-in advantage with its separated street/track configuration. It remains to be seen whether the $12.2M master design will attract the private development that's needed to finance the project, which could eventually tie together MARTA, streetcars, light rail, commuter rail, and buses in one signature facility. Think happy thoughts!
