Painfully Beautiful Country Estate in GA's Prettiest Town

[Images via Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty]

When one of the most beautiful towns in the South is within an easy drive of Atlanta's upper crust, you'd better believe some impressive country homes are in order. Such is the case with Madison, located a scant hour east of the city. While there's no shortage of beautifully restored houses near the square, it's on the edge of town where you'll find what's quite possibly Madison's most daydream-inducing estate. The place is known as Camp Boxwoods, and the fascinating thing is that what looks like some kind of fairy tale Victorian compound actually started out as a dowdy byproduct of the late 1970s. The creative couple behind the Boxwoods boutique in Buckhead completely transformed the place with a hefty amount of vision, loads of architectural salvage, and a Noah's Ark worth of creatures and critters, creating the ultimate rural Georgia getaway. A $3,450,000 price tag includes the 4/4/1 main house on 250 acres featuringlakes, waterfalls, gardens, and pastures. It's a princely price indeed, but it's less than half that of Madison's most expensive current listing.
