Hotel Slated for Parking Lot Next to Buckhead Theatre

New, 7 comments

A parking lot of prime real estate next door to the Buckhead Theatre — long envisioned as the site of a hotel of some sort, possibly boutique — is now slated for Buckhead's first Hilton Garden Inn. BuckheadView reports The Loudermilk Companies LLC has acquired the Hilton Garden Inn flag after about a year of serious searching for a hotel to occupy the lot. A big radius restriction attached to the Hilton hotel in downtown recently elapsed, and now there's a three-mile restriction prohibiting development of another Hilton Garden Inn near the Buckhead location at Roswell Road and Irby Avenue, an official told BuckheadView.

CEO Robert Loudermilk expects the development process to begin possibly within six months, with an opening slated for at least a year later. The size of the hotel was not specified. As BuckheadView notes, the Loudermilk family owns half of the block along Roswell Road north of Peachtree and West Paces Ferry roads. Last week, the company announced it had acquired the former Pearson's Wine, Beer and Liquor store site at the corner of West Paces Ferry Road and Early Street.

With the Buckhead Atlanta project roaring, this sounds like another positive jolt for an area that teetered on moribund a couple of years ago. A sexy boutique hotel would have been cool in this space, though. How do you think a Hilton Garden Inn will jibe with the surrounding area?
