Plans call for a 10-story building that dates from 1910 in the Fairlie-Poplar District downtown to become metro Atlanta's first Home2 Suites by Hilton. Arsenal Capital Partners plans to extensively renovate the 87 Walton St. building, known as "The Madison House" and most recently used as affordable apartment housing, Tomorrow's News Today reports. The hotel chain, which operates two locations now in Augusta and Columbus, offers extended-stay, all-suites rooms. The website reports that plans also call for five retail spaces on Walton Street and a rooftop bar.
While the majority of Home2 Hotels are built from the ground up, historical structures have been used, such as for the Home2 San Antonio, which opened in a 1919 building. The Atlanta Home2 was the only hotel selected to participate in Atlanta's Better Buildings Challenge, and plans reportedly call for the building to be LEED certified.
