For the first time, Atlanta is preparing to exercise its power of eminent domain to develop a park or trail tied to the Beltline. The city will use a few acres of condemned land to expand Enota Place Park (one of the initial 13 jewels of the Beltline's "emerald necklace" vision) and five parcels along the Southwest Beltline Connector Trail, not far from Westview Cemetery. The city cites a "public purpose" to justify the land grab, and it doesn't sound like much was happening on these parcels anyhow. [Saporta Report]
