As Curbed reported last month, the PATH Foundation has reached the goal of $14.3 million for its "Make the Connection" campaign, promising to create a trail network of more than 200 miles throughout the metro. While a few tidbits about the beneficiaries — i.e. that long-awaited trail along Ga. 400 — were released at the time, much was left to the imagination. After snagging a few details via snail mail (the foundation folks apparently don't have any maps or brochures in digital form), Curbed has your scoop.
The PATH Foundation is all about a trail hub at Centennial Olympic Park. While there don't appear to be any specific plans for amenities or anything of the like at said hub, it will truly be a focal point in the organization's grand scheme. That grand scheme includes, among several other things:
-- $2.26 million for a trail that will, ultimately, connect Centennial to Stone Mountain. It will eventually include a three-quarter mile stretch along John C. Portman Blvd. from Centennial Olympic Park Drive to Piedmont Avenue; 1.6 miles through Clarkson and across the Perimeter; and another three-quarter stretch through Stone Mountain Village. All that will connect with other trails to form a 19-mile non-stop connection.
-- $3.55 million for PATH 400 and its connection to the Beltline. Details about the trail along Ga. 400 have been reported aplenty, but these funds will also be used to help connect it to the Eastside Beltline trail, via Piedmont Road.
-- $650K to complete the 12-mile Westside Trail. The funds will be used to throw up the final sections of the trail that connects to the Beltline at two places and passes, among other things, Morehouse College, the Georgia Dome and the World Congress Center.
-- $93K for a "10th Street Bike Track." This dough is allotted for a bikeway to be constructed alongside Piedmont Park on 10th Street, connecting the Beltline to Midtown.
There are plenty of other projects, mostly OTP, included in the plans as well. The timeframes are all, basically, "eventually." All in all, the completion of the fundraising means another big step toward ATL's interconnectivity.
