To Redo Or Destroy? FLW-Inspired Home Asks $547K

Let's make this clear: It's easy to say a property was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, as the listing agent does here. But echoing the techniques of the organic architecture master is another matter entirely. This 2,400 square-foot contemporary ranch, built in 1980, takes a stab at blending in to its serene and woodsy surroundings, but too much of it lands with a clunk to qualify as Wrightian. See: the glass-block wall, the abundant popcorn ceilings, the obnoxiously large window with driveway views, the kitchen cabinetry built of some cousin to plywood, the worn-out hardwoods, the bathrooms ostensibly inspired by Days Inn. The price-chop to $547,000 is understandable, as is the agent's suggestion that this property would make a swell renovation — or a teardown. The asking price dropped from $599,000 earlier this month, but was as high as $625,000 last year. Still, the Buckhead location — nestled off Interstate 75 in the Warren Jackson school district — is choice. Other highlights: low maintenance, peaceful living, new gutters. Even in overheated Buckhead this could be a tough sell.
