In a Creative Loafing op-ed piece, one Old Fourth Ward denizen calls for action regarding the David T. Howard school — an abandoned brick structure on John Wesley Dobbs Avenue once attended by the likes of Martin Luther King Jr. and NBA legend Walt Frazer. APS shuttered the school nearly 40 years ago, and after decades of underuse, early whispers of "demolition" have swirled. Snarls the writer: "The lack of consultation with the neighborhood, which has been home to the building for 90 years, and the early mention of demolition reflect a general disregard for both the neighborhood and its history."
