New buffered bike lanes on Ponce de Leon Avenue — that historically dicey passageway for bicyclists — should be complete by Oct. 1 from Juniper Street to Ponce de Leon Place (near Green's liquor store), officials report. The Georgia DOT recently re-paved Ponce's six lanes, eliminating two of them and allowing for bike lanes between Midtown and the Beltline. 11 Alive reports the lanes will have a painted buffer — three-foot wide hash makes — to separate them from motorized traffic. One official said Ponce has more bicycle crashes than any other corridor in Georgia. [11 Alive]
