Boozy 'Golf Entertainment Complex' Slated For Westside

New, 9 comments

Its first Atlanta-area location hasn't even opened yet, and Top Golf — a "golf entertainment complex" offering food and booze — is already planning to build a second. Top Golf Alpharetta is scheduled to open this spring, bringing an upscale-ish sports bar feel to a triple-decker driving range/target-game venue off Westside Parkway, less than a mile from Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. That's been officially announced. Now, city of Atlanta records show the Texas-based international chain has aspirations for another location on the industrial fringes of Atlanta's Westside.

A planning application filed last month shows officials from Top Golf have requested relaxed parking space requirements for the site at 1600 Ellsworth Industrial Drive. Awkwardly worded documents reiterate that the vacant, wooded site — taking up 16-plus acres about a mile west of Howell Mill Road — is destined for "the construction of a driving golf range." Property records show the land was last sold in 2006 for $2.7 million. Hard to say what kind of success the project will see on the Westside, but it's got 15 locations in the U.S. and England, and at least one games-themed hangout (Ormsby's) has thrived in the area.
