Like Other Rehabs, Grant Park Throwback Leans Midcentury

New, 4 comments

Say the words "quintessential Grant Park home" and almost no one will think "swinging midcentury style, baby!" Yet here, about a block southwest of Zoo Atlanta, this recently gutted 1958 ranch nods to the simple lines and clean minimalist of the ever-popular style, echoing a trend spotted in other neighborhoods like East Atlanta and Kirkwood. Flippers scored this three-bedroom, two-bathroom abode for $135,000 just two months ago, according to property records. After an injection of granite, a chef's kitchen and revived (or new) hardwoods throughout — and the likely deletion of a wall or two — the asking price is $349,000, which could be a tall order for a house of 1,319 square feet. The back yard, however, is enormous, and the profile from back there might be the most midcentury thing about it, with a pencil-straight roofline and contemporary deck work. The home is zoned Tier 1 for a local charter school, as the listing notes, but raising a hip little family in here might be a squeeze.
