Community leaders in downtown, Midtown and Buckhead are uniting to tout the awesomeness of the street and road known as Peachtree — the ancient ridge that has evolved, in the words of one city booster, into the "cultural and economic center of the Southeast." At stake is $250 million in possible infrastructure improvements that CID officials think would be well spent on Atlanta's eight-mile spine. Some 80 different projects — constituting 14,600 new apartments and condos, 1,600 new hotel rooms and a boatload of office space — are reportedly under construction or planned for Peachtree.
