Underground Outlook

South Carolina developer WRS Inc.'s plans for Underground Atlanta include a grocery store, plenty of new retail and above-ground residential units, but one thing is missing: affordability. There are no requirements to include affordable housing in the new project, and Mayor Reed is taking flak for that despite his assertions that "no government in the state of Georgia... has done more on affordability than mine." Critics worry "it'll be another gentrification development... pushing out poor people and black people from downtown Atlanta." Are Atlanta's rents getting too damn high across the board? [WABE]
