It's Official: Atlanta Has a Streetcar! Photos From the First Day

New, 20 comments

It was a festive day down at Woodruff Park as the long-delayed Atlanta Streetcar opened its doors for the city's first streetcar passengers since 1949. A brass section played, noisemakers and stickers were handed out (everybody loves stickers) and balloon sculptures waved in the breeze as Mayor Kasim Reed, Central Atlanta Progress President AJ Robinson, MARTA CEO Keith Parker, FTA Regional Administrator Yvette Taylor and other special guests disembarked from the streetcar for the grand opening.
