The 10-story building at 300 Spring St., just across from the AmericasMart, used to be a Days Inn with Yelp reviews that included phrases such as "blood on the box springs," "distinct odor" and "I survived." But Starwood Hotels & Resorts — owners of brands such as the Westin, the W Atlanta, St. Regis Atlanta and Sheraton Atlanta — are hoping to change the 254-room hotel's reputation as it reopens this week as Aloft Atlanta Downtown. Purchased by Tampa-based DeBartolo Development in 2012, the run-down building was modernized during its roughly $25 million renovation and now features 2,500 square feet of meeting space, a 24-hour fitness center and a bar with live music, all within a short walk to the World of Coke, Centennial Olympic Park, the Tabernacle, SkyView Atlanta and the aquarium.
Now that the construction crews have packed up and the doors have opened, it's time to see what's been going on over there during the multimillion-dollar renovations...
