Another Generic Glass Residential Tower For Midtown?

New, 29 comments

The acre and a half at West Peachtree and 14th streets (where Einstein Bros. Bagels now stands) could soon be the home of a gleaming residential high-rise, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The potential buyer is none other than the Novare Group, which Atlantans may know as the developer of spectacularly monotonous glass boxes such as SkyHouse Midtown on West Peachtree Street, SkyHouse South on Sixth Street and Viewpoint on Peachtree Street.

Get your bagels while you can because the property may be razed and ready for crews to break ground by the end of 2014. Novare has been interested in the land since 2006, when it filed plans to build a high-rise with 405 condos and 30,000 square feet of retail space there. Those plans were abandoned when the economy went south. Information on the new project is limited, but you probably won't lose any bets by putting money on something tall and shiny with parking decks aplenty. Bravo for increasing density, but let's hope for something with a bit of character on this prominent corner.
