A new tech incubator started by Michael Tavani, a Scoutmob cofounder, has received a cease and desist letter from nonprofit Atlanta Beltline Inc. The startup space, expected to open in Ponce City Market, is called Beltline & Co. (at least for now) but despite the similarities in name, Tavani doesn't believe he is violating trademark because a tech startup is not a green space and is unlikely to be confused for one — and because "beltline" is a common word not exclusively used to refer to the Atlanta landmark. The battle has just begun. Adios, Beltline Bakery, Beltline Bar, Beltline B&B and Beltline Books... we never even knew you. [AJC - Full story behind paywall]
UPDATE: Tavani reports that he will change the company's name.
