Everything ITP Snubbed In List Of Georgia's 'Best Places'

New, 24 comments

The real estate researchers at Movoto have concocted a top 10 list of Georgia's "Best Places" using very specific criteria, and not a single ITP locale made the cut. All ITP cities and Atlanta itself failed to perform like Alpharetta, Peachtree City and Athens when put through the Movoto gantlet, which they call a Big Deal Score Ranking System. In fact, the top 10 places are almost exclusively Atlanta satellites cities. Movoto analyzed the 81 "places" in Georgia with a population of at least 10,000 and pulled in data from the U.S. Census, FBI and business listings.

Each place was vetted based on the following criteria: total amenities (you'd think Atlanta would score astronomically well here); total crimes (maybe not so much here); tax rates (and here); unemployment; commute time; general quality of life (cost of living, et cetera) and weather, which accounted for temperature and air quality.

Based on those parameters, Movoto declares these the crème de la crème of Peach State places:

1. City of Canton
2. Peachtree City
3. City of Athens
4. City of Alpharetta
5. City of Perry

6. City of Fayetteville
7. City of Duluth
8. City of Woodstock
9. City of Norcross
10. City of Kennesaw
10. City of Gainesville

At No. 16, Decatur came closest among ITP cities to cracking Movoto's prestigious upper echelon. They call the champion, Canton, "the quintessence of a charming Georgian city" with its "beautiful, historic downtown" and "some surprisingly good Mexican food." Canton scored relatively well for unemployment (7.7 percent) and a crime rate 49 percent lower than the rest of Georgia. What's more, Canton enjoys a cool average summer high temperature of just 76 degrees. Who knew?
