Beltline, Ponce City Market Join Forces, Plan Awesomeness

New, 8 comments

Not since peanut butter and jelly were first combined has a pairing been as practical as the partnership between the Atlanta Beltline and Ponce City Market. The two Atlanta mega-projects are joining forces to build North Avenue Plaza, a public area between the trail and PCM that will allow Beltline users to relax among native trees and plants, benches and bike racks. Jamestown (PCM's developer) and the Beltline received a federal Transportation, Community and System Preservation grant that will partially fund the new project, which should be ready for Atlantans' lounging and pollen-inhaling enjoyment by next spring.

You'll be able to get to the plaza using either an ADA accessible pathway from the existing trail or from (drumroll, please) a brand-new elevator and stair access from the bridge over North Avenue. The new elevator and stairway will be constructed and maintained by Ponce City Market as part of the soon-to-be-added Boiler Building, one of two (the other being The Shed) new retail and restaurant venues along the Beltline. The contractors have started grading and preparing the sites for construction that's expected to start in earnest this fall.
