More Mixed-Use Mania On Tap For White-Hot Midtown

New, 17 comments

Could the Midtown Checkers soon meet its maker? An agenda item for today's SPI-16 and SPI-17 Development Review Committee meeting would suggest so. Houston-based luxury apartment builders The Hanover Company are planning a six-story, mixed-use complex for 1010 W. Peachtree St. that would appear to consume (or "feast on") the fast-food restaurant's current site. According to the DRC agenda, the project would include 328 residential units (whether apartments or condos is not clear) with frontage on 10th, Spring and West Peachtree streets.

Plans also call for 13,000 square feet of retail fronting 10th Street. In March, Hanover introduced plans for a 385-unit apartment complex at Perimeter Town Center that was said to be their entrée into the Atlanta market. Indeed, Hanover's online portfolio shows no other Atlanta projects, though they promote themselves as being active in this market. They specialize in "the development of high quality multi-family residential properties nationwide," the website says. The project sounds like a scaled-back offering for Midtown, contrasting the multiple residential towers proposed for a few blocks directly north on 14th Street.
