Assessments Gone Wild

DeKalb County has apparently caused quite the hullabaloo after issuing homeowners with this year's property tax bills, some of which had flown off the charts in a rather unexpected way. A post on Decatur Metro points out that DeKalb's assessments of land value used to be lower and pretty stable while values based on improvements were be higher and more variable, but now, it's vice versa... but only sometimes. Are you feeling lucky? Confusion abounds. DeKalb employees had better settle in and get ready to review some appeals because they're coming. [Decatur Metro.
