Surrounded by houses starting in the $300,000 to $500,000 range, this $1,295,000 home is 136.6 percent more expensive than the median home in the area and is priced at 6.9 percent more per square foot. Apparently that's what happens when Sir Elton John sets out to renovate a $725,000 house in a quiet neighborhood. According to tax records, he does not personally own the home, even though PalmerHouse Properties calls it the "former Atlanta home of pop star Elton John," but he is responsible for the renovation. Some sources claim he spent $3 million remodeling the three-bedroom, three-bathroom house for his boyfriend. Others say it was his guest house. At a mere 4,663 square feet, it seems unlikely that the Rocket Man ever used it as his primary residence, given that his lavish condo atop Buckhead's Park Place on Peachtree is nearly three times the size. The piano-playing knight has a well-earned reputation for both razzle and dazzle (his British home features a room made of sea shells, a huge t-rex statue from Ringo Starr and a donkey pen designed to look like Windsor Castle), but that level of gaudiness is notably absent in this home's sophisticated design. Arched windows, classic design elements and multiple skylights give it an open but cozy vibe. The buyer can always add their own glittery piano.
