Can Gargoyles Guard Against Crime? O4W Home Hopes So.

New, 5 comments

Homes on Old Fourth Ward's Kennesaw Avenue are close enough to Ponce City Market and the Beltline that asking prices in the $500,000 range seem justifiable, but a beautifully restored four-bedroom asking $599,000 is still lingering on the market after three months. As many a commenter has pointed out, the street is also close enough to high-crime areas to make it undesirable to many (see the crime map from the Trulia listing below). Undesirable enough that a $250K fixer-upper recently failed to sell despite its proximity to Atlanta's two hottest projects. Now, this three bedroom home on the same street will try its luck for the asking price of $518,900. The 2,352-square-foot home features guard gargoyles (crime be damned!), Asian-inspired decor, a butterfly mural and lots of glass cubes but no off-street parking. The listing photos put an unusual amount of focus on the home's four bathrooms, one of which appears to have been plucked straight out of a bordello. What's it going to take for houses on this street to sell?
